One of the most sacred and important texts of Hinduism is the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. Its sermon was given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna before the start of the Mahabharata war. This text is included as an Upanishad under the Bhishmaparva of the Mahabharata and has a total of 18 chapters and 700 verses. The knowledge of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita was given about 5560 years ago. It is considered to be the essence of the Vedas and Upanishads.
The Bhagavad Gita is compared to the spiritual knowledge found in the Upanishads. It has been called the ‘milk’ of the Upanishads. The Gita includes many knowledge such as Ashvattha Vidya, Aksharpurush Vidya, and Ksharpurush Vidya, which are directly related to the Upanishads.
Importance of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita
This text is the essence of the Vedas and a unique scripture. In this, Lord Krishna has revealed the deep secrets of life, karma, and soul. The language of the Gita is in simple and beautiful Sanskrit, which is easy to understand, but its meanings and objectives are so deep that even a lifetime of study cannot fully understand it. This scripture reveals new ideas and meanings every time.
It is difficult to describe the greatness of the Gita in words. Vedvyasji, the author of Mahabharata, has written while describing the Gita:
Gita Sugita Kartavya Kimanyaih Shastravistraih.
Ya Svayam Padmanabhasya Mukhapadmadvinihsrita.
That is, reading and understanding the Gita well is the main duty, because it has come from the mouth of Lord Shri Vishnu himself.
Essence of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita has solutions to every aspect of life. It answers the fundamental questions of human life such as “Who am I?”, “What will happen after leaving this body?”, and “What is the purpose of life?” Answers are given. Shri Krishna has presented the solution to all these questions in a simple way through Dharma Samvad.
In the Bhagavad Gita, emphasis has been laid on keeping the soul stable and applying the intellect in work. Lord Shri Krishna has explained the paths like Karma Yoga, Gyan Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga. The message of the Gita is that connecting the soul with the Supreme Being while doing selfless work in life is true yoga.
